Overview

The Empire State Building is one of the most famous skyscrapers in the world and an enduring symbol of New York City, a 102-storey Art Deco tower rising 443 meters (with its antenna) over Midtown Manhattan. Completed in 1931 in just over a year during the Great Depression, it was the tallest building in the world for nearly 40 years and remains an icon of the Manhattan skyline.

Its 86th-floor open-air observatory and the higher 102nd-floor deck offer spectacular views across the city and beyond, drawing millions of visitors a year. Famous from countless films — from King Kong to An Affair to Remember — and lit each night in colors marking holidays and events, the Empire State Building is a beloved monument to the ambition and energy of New York.
