Sheep Meadow is a 15-acre expanse of open lawn in the heart of New York City's Central Park — the most famous urban park in the world — and one of the city's most beloved spots to picnic, sunbathe, and relax. Surrounded by trees and framed by the Manhattan skyline rising beyond, the car-free, sports-free meadow is a designated quiet zone where New Yorkers and visitors spread blankets on warm days to escape the city's bustle.

Once actually grazed by sheep (until the 1930s), the meadow is now a cherished green refuge in the middle of Manhattan, part of the visionary 19th-century park designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux.
