Charging Bull
The famous bronze bull of Wall Street — a symbol of financial optimism and market strength.
Overview
Charging Bull, often called the Wall Street Bull, is a 3.4-meter, 3,200-kilogram bronze sculpture of a powerfully muscled bull, head lowered and ready to charge, in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan. Created by the artist Arturo Di Modica, it was installed without permission as a piece of guerrilla art in December 1989, dropped overnight in front of the New York Stock Exchange as a symbol of resilience after the 1987 stock market crash.
Though initially removed by the city, public affection led to its reinstallation nearby at Bowling Green, where it has become one of New York's most popular attractions and a global symbol of financial optimism, market strength, and Wall Street itself. Visitors crowd around it daily, and rubbing the bull is said to bring good luck and prosperity.
