Old Place Creek
A public river in from the Great Lakes to the Adirondacks, with public boat and paddle access.
Overview
Old Place Creek is a public water in from the Great Lakes to the Adirondacks, open to boating, fishing and paddling. Anglers here target smallmouth and largemouth bass, walleye, northern pike, muskellunge, trout and panfish. The Great Lakes, Finger Lakes and rivers hold trout, salmon and steelhead.
Recreation
As moving water, it fishes by current — target seams, eddies, holes, bends and woody cover rather than open flats.
Public access points along Old Place Creek put boaters and paddlers on the water.
Best Time to Visit
Spring and fall are typically the most productive and comfortable times to fish here; summer brings the warmest water and the most boat traffic, and winter offers hard-water fishing once safe ice forms.
Safety
River current, woody snags, shifting sandbars and changing water levels are the main hazards. Respect the current, scout unfamiliar stretches, give way to any commercial traffic, and never anchor from the stern in a strong flow.
