Hyde Park
London's great royal park, a vast green space for picnics, boating, and Speakers' Corner.
Overview
Hyde Park is one of the largest and most famous of London's royal parks, a vast green expanse in the heart of the city offering Londoners and visitors a beloved place to picnic, relax, and play. Its broad lawns, ancient trees, the Serpentine lake, gardens, and memorials make it a green lung in the center of the British capital, a tradition of public recreation stretching back centuries.
Once a royal hunting ground, Hyde Park is famous for Speakers' Corner (a historic home of free speech), boating and swimming in the Serpentine, summer concerts, and simply spreading a blanket on the grass on a sunny day. Adjoining Kensington Gardens, it forms a huge swath of greenery beloved for picnics and leisure in one of the world's great cities.
