Glacier Point
Yosemite's spectacular overlook, 3,200 feet above the valley with views of Half Dome and the high country.
Overview
Glacier Point is the most famous viewpoint in Yosemite National Park, a dramatic overlook perched about 980 meters (3,200 feet) directly above Yosemite Valley in California. From its railed promontory, visitors take in one of the greatest panoramas in the American West: the sheer face of Half Dome, the high Sierra peaks, and — far below — the valley floor, with Yosemite, Vernal, and Nevada Falls all in view.
Reached by a scenic road in the warmer months (or by a strenuous trail), Glacier Point is breathtaking by day and famous for its sunsets and dark-sky stargazing. The viewpoint has inspired generations, from John Muir to Ansel Adams, and remains the quintessential place to grasp the immense glacial-carved grandeur of Yosemite from above.
