Overview

Wonder Lake Campground lies deep within Alaska's Denali National Park, near the end of the long park road and famous for its postcard view: on a clear day, the immense bulk of Denali — the highest mountain in North America — is reflected in the still waters of Wonder Lake. Remote and tent-only, it is one of the most coveted and hard-to-reach campgrounds in the United States.

Reached only by the park's shuttle buses along the single gravel road deep into the wilderness, Wonder Lake offers solitude, vast subarctic tundra, abundant wildlife (grizzlies, caribou, moose), and — weather permitting — unforgettable views of the great mountain. The famous mosquitoes are legendary too. For those who make the journey, it is a profound immersion in one of the wildest landscapes in America.
