Overview

Tokyo Skytree is the tallest tower in the world and the second-tallest structure on Earth, rising 634 meters above the Sumida district of Tokyo. Completed in 2012 as a broadcasting and observation tower, its sleek, pale form draws on traditional Japanese aesthetics while showcasing cutting-edge earthquake-resistant engineering — a central pillar system inspired by the structure of ancient pagodas.

Two observation decks, the highest at 450 meters, offer staggering panoramas over the vast Tokyo metropolis, stretching on clear days all the way to Mount Fuji. The tower anchors a large complex of shops, restaurants, and an aquarium, and it is beautifully illuminated at night in alternating blue and purple themes, making it a defining feature of the modern Tokyo skyline.
