Woodland warblers (blackburnian, Canada, magnolia) nest in the higher-elevation forest. Dan’s Mountain State Park is in Allegany County, Maryland, south of the town of Midland and east of Frostburg. Access is via Beall School Road and Dan’s Mountain Road — a winding mountain road that ascends the ridge to the park. The park is about 5 miles south of Frostburg off MD Route 36. A Maryland state park fee applies for the pool area; the park picnic areas and trails are accessible at no charge. Frostburg (the Allegany County mountain city, with Frostburg State University and services) is about 5 miles north. Cumberland (the regional center) is about 15 miles east.
